Mimé Yamahiro

Mime Yamahiro Brinkmann came to study historical performance both on the violoncello and the viola da gamba at the Royal Conservatorium in The Hague where she graduated with a Solo Diploma in 1998. She was a prizewinner at the First International Competition for Original String Instruments (chairman Gustav Leonhardt) in Brescia, Italy in 1995 and the first cellist to win a prize at the Musica Antiqua Brugge Soloist Competiton, Belgium in 1996. Mime is active as a soloist, chamber musician and as a member of leading early music ensembles such as Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra (Canada), Bach Collegium Japan, Concerto Copenhagen, La Petite Bande (Belgium), Apollo's Fire, Cleveland Baroque Orchestra and Seattle Baroque (USA), touring all over the world. She is currently the principal cellist of Sweden's most active early music ensemble, Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble with which she performs operas in the original Baroque theater which is listed on the UNESCO's world heritage, Drottoningholms Slottsteater every summer. She has given historical cello performance masterclasses at the University of Art in Seoul, South Korea in 2002, at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow in 2004 and gave annual masterclasses both the cello and the viola da gamba at the International Music Festival in Juiz de Fora, Brazil 1998-2004. Mime currently lives in Sweden, where she teaches baroque cello at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.
